Musically Inclined (except not really)...

Music has become one of the most important things in my life. Throughout some of my darkest moments, it's one of the few things that has been able to keep me somewhat close to sanity (apart from God who means everything to me). I can't explain what music does, but between the bass, the drums, guitar, harmonies, melodies and just a whole song in general, I get lost. I truly lose myself.

I like to think I have diverse music taste. I listen to everything ranging from pop, country, musicals, classical, classic rock, alternative, indie, occasional rap (depending on the artist), mariachi, salsa, merengue, 70's, 80's, 90's, Disney songs, The Beatles (yes, I consider them their own genre), and just SO much more. Music is everywhere, there's absolutely no way you can ever avoid it. Everything has it's own rhythm, it's own beat, it's own sound.  I've always wanted to take each of these different sounds, put them together and see what I could take from them, see what harmonies I could create, a melody, make an actual song. Sadly, I feel as if my talents in that particular area aren't necessarily, well good. I highly believe music is a remedy within itself. It's a gift that some use wisely, and others abuse.

Despite how not very musically inclined I am, I've always had dreams of making music my life. What could be better than to pursue a career in what I love the most? My hopes haven't died, it's not something I plan on giving up. Somehow, someway, I'm going to make sure that whatever I end up doing somehow relates to, or is music. I'm pretty sure many others feel the same way, and I understand why. I don't care how impractical it may seem, why am I going to go into a career I don't enjoy? I'll succeed more in something I enjoy instead of something that will make every single day of my life full of misery.

I know music makes people happy, no matter what religion they are or if they don't have a religion at all. I want to make people happy. I want to be able to tell people they're not alone, they can be happy and they will be. Pain is only temporary, it might return but things may fall apart for better things to fall together. Patience is key. Music has helped me be patient. No matter how long I've had to wait something out, music has been the only thing that's stuck like glue, whether it be a church hymn such as O PureVirgin (my personal favorite) or What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction. Just be a bit patient, listen to some music. Things always get better. :)

Midnight Memories

It's a well known fact to all of my friends that I'm a (very proud) One Direction fan and I have been for the past 2, nearly 3 years. Recently, the band released a new album called Midnight Memories. I'm sure it's needless to say I absolutely love every single song on the album, but I figured I should justify why this has been by far the best album the boys have released, in my opinion.

When One Direction released their debut album, Up All Night, they became famous worldwide as if overnight. Although I believe Up All Night to be a great album with songs like What Makes You Beautiful and One Thing (a personal favorite), none of the songs were written or even co-written by any of the boys. I expected this due to the band being fresh out of the UK's X Factor, but it wasn't until their second album, Take Me Home, that we began to get more of a feel for what the boys really wanted their music to sound like.

Take Me Home was a very upbeat album with a few emotional songs here and there. The boys began to take a hold of their music even more and slowly started growing as songwriters, experiencing different areas of music. I had the privilege to actually go to the Take Me Home tour in Houston, Texas where the boys performed about 95% of their songs from the Take Me Home album. The concert was pretty amazing, definitely one I will always remember and even tell my kids about. I had the best time of my life. The album made #1 on iTunes within the first day it was released and topped many charts. I highly believe it doesn't come close to being as good as Midnight Memories.

Midnight Memories has been the first album the boys have released where majority of the songs were written by the boys, take it they didn't write them alone, but the point is that they had full control of their music. If you were to take your time just listening to songs from each album in order (Up All Night, Take Me Home and then Midnight Memories), you will begin to realize how much their music begins to mature. I personally feel as if the boys have always tried to target an older audience (Ages 16+) but due to growing themselves, they've been able to hit a much wider range of fans. The boys are now kicking butt with an unbelievably strong fan base behind them and are growing in their music with a brand new phenomenal album. With songs like "Diana," "Story of my Life," "Strong," and "Half A Heart," I truly believe that everyone should check out Midnight Memories. This album has such a great feel to it, one that I will definitely be having on repeat for a very, very long time. One Direction, I truly commend you on such a great album!! Love you guys! :)

Welcome!!

Hey guys!!
I'm Valerie and this is my blog (clearly). I'd like to start off with saying that this blog will be revolving around music 99.9% of the time. If this blog actually picks up then I might start posting about many other things I experience or believe in (maybe). I'll be posting about my current favorite bands, artists, songs, albums, concert experiences, reviews and even musicals. If there are ever any suggestions on songs to listen to or how you feel, please feel free to share, I'm always open to new suggestions!
I'll post my first music related post in a few, I'll try and keep my posts to maybe twice or three times a week but I am in theatre so I will try my best!!

Sincerely,
   Valerie :)
